Hi! My name is Victoria Renton, and I am one of the placement students here at Healthy Hearts. I am currently in my 4th and final year at Western University (woohoo!), where I am working towards completing my Bachelor of Arts in Clinical Kinesiology. I have always enjoyed being active, whether that be playing competitive soccer or running for leisure. A few of my hobbies include working out, hiking, and trying new restaurants. I have years of experience coordinating and coaching soccer programs, where I have gained skills in leadership and curriculum planning. Until this point at my placement, I have been onsite at Healthy Hearts numerous times, where I have been helping lead the resistance training portion for the intake class. Additionally, I have been developing my skills in “the art” of individualizing aerobic exercise prescriptions as well as getting to know some of the members here in the program! When I am not onsite in Goderich, I am working behind the scenes crafting the intake patient manual for the upcoming COPD program. This entails creating the weekly education topics and providing external resources to support the program. Through my placement at Healthy Hearts, I hope to continue my passion of learning about chronic disease rehab and apply my exercise prescription knowledge to better support the needs of the members. Upon graduation, I plan on completing the Registered Kinesiologist (R.Kin) exam. I intend to work as an R.Kin for a few years, and then pursue a master’s degree involving a specialization in chronic disease management. I have always taken an interest in the implications of exercise and healthy lifestyle behaviours on chronic conditions, which is why I am so thrilled to be a member of the team here at Healthy Hearts!
